THE COLOUR PURPLE

The purple people eater, purple haze, purple comes up here and there but not as often as I would like. Friends know that purple is my favourite colour. If I need something and find it in purple I am happy.

I also have purple sunnies and specs. Looove purple nail polish too. So, look what I had done today.

I have also been stitching with purple thread.

With colour therapy violet brings together red and blue representing healing and transformation. with the spirituality of blue and vitality of red, my fire sign  being an Aries. My favourite flowers are purple irises and lavender. I love lavender pure essential oil for its calming and soothing qualities. I also like Amethyst crystals.

Something a little bit different today but thanks for visiting.

A LITTLE PROGRESS

It seems like I have not really progressed much with projects this past week but at least I have achieved something. The heat, which I love, prevents me from doing as much stitching due to no air conditioning. Not that we have had a lot of real summer yet.  Do you like my flowers?

I have proceeded to prepare the 64 flower rosettes for one of the larger borders on my Insanity quilt.

I need to baste several more hexies and I am still sewing on the 2nd border at the moment. A seemingly endless task! BUT, I have completed the 2nd block of Val Laird's BOM. (See button on my side bar).

Some secret sewing is also happening so I guess I haven't done too bad really.

Thankyou so much for stopping by. Angel Blessings to you all.

READY TO START

I am rather excited to be starting my first FHFS ( Friends Having Fun Swap) after much angst deciding what to make.  Yesterday I finally came home with these lovelies. They have been washed, dried and folded ready to iron and start creating.

Determined to keep up to date with BOMs this year, I have finished Val's first block before the next one comes out next week.  See my sidebar for her BOM details.

I have been stitching several daylight hours and Ott light hours the past week just putting the first of many borders on my Insanity quilt. Whew! What a slog just to get round the 4 sides . I am now stitching the 2nd border on. Meanwhile I decided to start putting the cream fabric around all the rosettes I had prepared for one of the borders and found that I was a few short of the 64 required. So, with much scrounging and cursing I found some suitable fabrics in my stash and have cut and basted the hexies ready to make more pretty rosettes.

I am now off to hang the washing on the line so I can then embark on some creative magic.

I still can't find the settings to change this blog to the correct day. It looks like I shall forever be a day behind . Story of my life  hehehe.

KEEPING UP TO DATE AND FINISHES

I am really happy with myself for getting things finished and for keeping up to date this year....so far. I had 2 Anni Downs' stitcheries completed and stashed away in a box with many others. Barb reminded me of them when she posted a pic of hers framed so nicely. Now, I had already purchased the frames and was wondering what fabric to use as borders when Barb's pics leaped out at me because I had a similar fabric as hers and it looked just perfect. So, what's a girl to do? Copy her friend's idea ofcourse.!  The frames are actually A4, not square like the pic shows. Why is that?

I am keeping up to date with free BOMs this year. Today I cut all the background fabric and stabiliser for Val's BOM and traced the first one ready to stitch before this month's is released. See my side bar.
I am using Cottage Garden thread called Eggplant. No idea what fabric I am using for the borders. So typical of me and I know I will be scratching my head trying to choose fabrics if I don't go and look for it soon. Hmmm, maybe I "need" to go fabric shopping this week.

Gee, 2 posts in 2 days! Wooohooo! Now, all I need to learn is how to get the correct date on my posts. It is Sunday 8th Feb, not Saturday 7th as I am sure it will show.

BACK TO INSANITY

Over 5 years ago I embarked on a personal challenge to make an EPP Insanity quilt. The pattern called for 1/2" hexies but I decided to make mine using 1" hexies. Back then I traced and cut out all the card templates to baste using old tea bag boxes, cereal boxes etc. Sometime later I wised up and bought some light card templates instead. I don't really like the paper ones, preferring the slight stiffness of the card so I found someone who makes them to order and never looked back. I decided to set myself a 5 year time span as I do so many other projects. Well, I have to say I did complete the main part of the quilt within the 5 years but then I put it away for a while. I had completed basting heaps of hexies for the borders and had also made all the rosettes (flowers) for one of the many borders. However, they all just sat in their respective plastic boxes the past year or so. A few days ago, on a mission to complete things this year, I gave the quilt an airing and have been working night and day sewing the first lot of borders on. So far I have only managed to stitch 2 sides with the 1st border, a mammoth task!   The main part of the quilt already covers our queen size bed without the borders.

This tin has been sitting on my coffee table so I can take a few moments to stitch some basted hexies together whenever I sit down with a cuppa. It has also accompanied me to my patchwork group.

Resulting in these.

They are stitched to the top and bottom of the quilt but the sides require individual hexies to be sewn on as it is a sort of zig zag edge. Very time consuming. Determination and a touch of insanity ?

CATCHING UP

Last year one of my patchwork groups hosted a block of the month as they do every year thanks to one of our very talented ladies who designs them. Her aim is to inspire us to use our own creativity with her designs as a guideline. The BOM was cupcakes and I put pics up last year of the two blocks I had made. Well, during the past few days I have been very busy appliquing 3 more blocks. I need to hurry because this year's BOM is starting soon.

Anzac Day-- I added the words and the badge.

Mothers Day....I added a bit of lace , the heart and the flower buttons.

Christmas pudding-- I thought the little ginger bread man would look good, added some ric rac and I did large colonial knots for the holly berries.

Determined to keep up with this year's BOMs , I finished Jenny's 2nd block which was released yesterday.

I loooove pin cushions and had forgotten that I bought this cute little sheep at our quilt show last year. Hubby found it in his back pack. Poor baa lamb. I think I shall call him Shaun.

Thank you all for your kind words about the passing of my beautiful Clayton. We are missing him terribly.
